Is the Prom Dress Store Just a Seasonal Event?
Capturing the Imagination of Vibrant Teenage Girls for Just a Couple of Months .. Then, GONE!
Oh ... to be young again!! A few times each year in my mall, there are stores that pop up out of nowhere and then disappear. There are always the same stores that have always been there, though some come and go, but the temporary store seems to be something that is becoming more common.
Formal Stores for a Moment in Time
There are some that pop up just for Christmas, and some just for special events such as school dances. They come and go according to season. One that I saw for the first time a few years ago was the prom dress store. It was there for about two months and then it was gone, at least, until the next year.
Formal Dresses is Big Business!
I never really thought about the prom being big business, but the prom dress store told me otherwise. I guess it makes sense, as this is one event that many in high school look forward to.
With a few exceptions, many
think of this as a rite of passage that means the
high school years are over, or are almost over, and
that adult life is just around the corner.
The prom store is well aware
of this situation and are ready to take advantage
of this meaningful time in a teen girl's
life. Having the right dress is crucial, and many look for the prom dress store that has a huge variety so they can be as sure as possible that they are not getting something everyone else will be wearing.
Too Old to Dance
I didn’t really go into the prom dress store, as I am well past prom age and my daughter is only five, but I did have a look through the window for a few moments. There is just something about pretty dress-up dresses that captures the imagination of almost any woman, even if she never intends to wear anything like it.
I noticed that most of the dresses in the store only had a few of the same thing. I would guess the doubles were a different size. Though having a great dress is ultra important, having one that no one else is wearing is even more important.
Girls Don't Want to Show Up at the School Dance in the Same Prom Gown
Any good prom dress store will try to have a lot of sizes, but won’t offer too many of the same dress. Most areas have people from multiple communities buying from them, so having just a few of each one can cut down on repeats.
The prom dress store may also have all of the accessories that you need to go with a dress, though purses and shoes are not a big deal if they repeat. It’s all about the dress.
So, if your daughter is about to embark on the high school dance journey, I am sure you will be making a visit to your friendly neighborhood prom dress store. Good hunting!!
