Let's face it. You are just like every other girl on the IRT who wants her prom gown to be the prettiest at the high school dance. But, can you afford to look stunning? To tell the truth beautiful prom dresses do not have to cost a fortune.
Just because your best girlfriend’s parents paid nearly $1000 on her designer formal doesn’t mean that this is normal practice. I may sound like the parent of a teenage daughter but I’m not. However, I was a teen who shopped for beautiful prom dresses for a couple of occasions and I found that spending more did not guarantee the perfect formal gown.
Shop for the Right Formal Prom Dress
Just like the song says, “You’d better shop around.” You can find beautiful prom dresses that cost a fortune but you can also find breathtaking formal wear for a fraction of the designer prices. All it takes is a little time and effort but what girl doesn’t love looking at gowns?

The Internet is probably the best place to begin looking for formal attire. You can quickly browse through hundreds and hundreds of gowns in relatively little time.

Should You Buy Multiple Prom Gowns?
Many young women go to more than one prom. I went to four over the course of my high school career. A very thrifty girl would have worn the same gown a couple of times but there was no way that I was going to wear the same thing more than once. Unfortunately, there was no way that my parents were going to pay for more than one formal dress.

Since I had to buy the other three gowns, I decided that I had to find beautiful prom dresses for the least amount of money. My job as a waitress gave me a pretty good income that afforded me some luxuries. It just didn’t afford me expensive luxuries.
Find Pretty Prom Dresses Locally
I discovered that a little shopping around can go a long way. The local newspaper can be a great way to find beautiful prom dresses for next to nothing. Many of these gowns have already been worn so you have to be careful not to buy damaged goods. Sometimes you come across a gown that was never used but it is rare.
Cheaper Prom Gowns
A good alternative to the newspaper is the consignment shop. I love these kinds of stores for buying formal wear because the gowns have to be in mint condition and they have to be professionally cleaned as well. I found three beautiful prom dresses in consignment shops and I almost wish that I had gone to these stores in the first place.
There are so many beautiful prom dresses to find that you won't have any problem dressing up in style for your prom this year. It’s a shame that many of these wonderful formals are only worn once. The truly outstanding ones should get a second chance.
So, it's up to you what you want to pay. But, as you now see finding a pretty prom dress for less money is achievable and maybe even desirable. You'll look stunning at the dance and no one will know unless you are a tattletale. d:-)
